This month, our CDP message of the month is Courage! Courage is the strength and
ability to do something even if it makes you nervous. You can do things like take deep
breaths, talk to a friend or listen to your favorite song if you’re feeling nervous about
something. Then, you can practice using your courage by demonstrating your form in
front of your class at karate, trying out a new sport, or giving a presentation at school
or work. The more you practice these kinds of situations, the less scary and
unexpected they’ll feel and the easier it gets to be courageous.
We like to talk about courage the month before we hold our annual forms
tournament, so we have some time to practice it leading up to the event. The
tournament is a really good place to practice using courage, as students stand up one
at a time to perform their form in front of the judges. Even though it can be a little
nerve-wracking, it is a great experience for students of all ages and ranks.
