The CDP message this month is Self Discipline. Self Discipline can be defined as doing
the things you need to do, even if you don’t feel like it. At the start of every karate class,
student’s recite four student creeds, one of which states, “I will develop self discipline, in
order to bring out the best in myself and others”. This means that if you spend the time to
take care of yourself and the things you need to do, you’ll show up as your best self and will
help encourage others around you to be their best self!
We can all use self discipline at home, at school or work, in a sport, at the gym or in
karate, to accomplish goals and continue getting better. At home, we can clean up our toys
clothes, or dishes. At school or work, we can focus and complete the assignments we need to
do. At karate, we can hold our rest stance when the instructor is talking, work really hard
each class and challenge ourselves. If we can regularly practice self discipline, we will be
known as reliable and responsible people and we will help set an example for others around
us. This is a very important part of becoming a black belt!
